THE
SAGA OF LIE, CHEAT, STEAL
Since there isn't much going on at the immediate
moment - I figured a short story about one
of my favorite projects would help pass
some time on the ol' site.
LIE
CHEAT STEAL was formed in September of 1993.
I had departed Cellophane/Sleet/postcard
in August of 1993. As some know, it was
an ugly and emotional situation. I had something
to prove to myself and others. I was determined
to start MY OWN project. I set forth with
a few unfaltering philosophy's as I started
to realize this project.
First,
I was going to control the project. No longer
did I want be at the whims of someone else's
vision and interpretation of reality. I
wanted My Reality (Which is a LCS song by
the way). I was going to be the "creative
center" of the band. It had to be a
3 piece - guitar, bass, drums, with myself
on vocals. Fully aware of my own vocal limitations,
I bit the bullet and took the singing chores.
Finding a singer would take forever, and
outside of Tim Bynum, any other lead singer
I ever happened upon was beyond difficult
to work with.Not worth it.
Also,
I wanted the music to be honest, smart,
from the heart, and absolutely rocking,
no pretensions.
The
other philosophy was that I wanted a rhythm
section who understood the philosophy, but
were not yes men and total subservients
to my whims. I wanted their ideas, their
contributions to songs, and full involvement
with the band.

MY
JOURNEY WITH THE DOVERBOYS
Let
me say it right off - there is a lot to
tell so this will be in installments. I
will try to be as clear as possible. Because
God knows the Doverboys were all about clarity.....
This
nostalgia blast will only cover my tenure
with the D-Boys. Anything before that is
their story to tell. My first introduction
to this group was an odd one. In 1991, I
had just moved into the soon to be legendary
- for decadence, debauchery, drama, degeneracy
and all around good time - 42 So. Bridge
St.
One
of the new roommates was a fella by the
name of Bill Hunter. I was told that he
played guitar in a punk band called the
Doverboys. We met and I liked Bill right
off. He didn't strike me as a typical punk
guy and we had a lot in common. Shortly
after moving in, I had been out for a while
and came home to find Bill and a bunch of
guys at the dining room table playing some
geopolitical D&D type board game.
I
said to my then girlfriend"how old
are these guys, and why are they playing
some dork board game". Well, sitting
at the table was one Tim Bynum. Whom we
will discuss at great length further on...
I
gotta cop to it before we go on, I admit
that at that time, I did not really get
punk rock and was only slightly versed in
it. I did like some punk and some indie
stuff, but a lot of it, especially punk
- struck me as noise and posturing. So Bill
would play me tapes, but I really didn't
dig it and plus I was developing a FULL
ON art helmet. I disgust myself when I think
about it - lol.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ALTERNATE ROUTE:
Alternate Route was formed in Poughkeepsie,NY,in early 1987. The first lineup of the band was Dave Rutherford on Drums,Nick DiBlasi on Bass, Bill Galbraith on Vocals, and myself on guitar. In Autumn of 1987 Bob "Bargio" Labarge replaced Bill on Vocals and Frank DiBlasi was added on guitar as well. Playing a bunch of classic rock covers and some 80's tunes, the band played parties and bars in Dutchess County and set up residence as de facto house band of Lil Sue's Hideaway in Poughkeepsie. During this time Alternate Route recorded the single "Between the Rails/Get Heavy". Frank DiBlasi left the band in late 88/early 89 and Alternate Route continued as a 4 piece until 1990 when the band broke up. There are 4 different stories of why the band broke up, with mine being the most accurate! Check back in the future for a much more extensive history of ALTERNATE ROUTE!
THE MAVENS
The Mavens first jam occured in 1996 at
the Saratoga Boat House. Former Sleet/Cellophane
Bassist Pat Irish,along with GleeB/Not U
drummer Mike Dunlop, and yours truly on
guitar were and still are the original lineup.Starting
out with original compositions and extensive
imrov,the band incorporated many classic
covers into the mix and embarked on a series
of original and cover gigs in 1999 that
lasted until 2001. After a brief hiatus,
The Mavens returned to recording and studio
sessions with the occasional cover gig, which
continue to this day. Check back for more
